Medicalem, a leader in medical simulation, has developed a serious game for crisis and disaster management: CHAOS.
The initial challenge of this project was to raise awareness of CHAOS among the target audience: healthcare professionals, fire and rescue service personnel, members of the security forces, representatives of the state and local authorities, and any other services that may play a role in critical situations.
The second challenge wasto illustrate how the serious gameworks and its technical aspects in a visual, fun, and educational way, placing potential players at the heart of their daily activities.
Finally, in announcing CHAOS as THE solution for enabling large-scale, low-cost training of response forces, the ultimate challenge was to supportthe process of establishing contact and demonstrating the tool.
The choice of video content for the CHAOS solution was motivated by internet users'appetite and target audiences'engagement with this type of dynamic and entertaining content.
The production of this 2D animated film began with the creation of a storyboard and script, including the development of characters and a crisis scenario, before being approved by the client.
In terms of design, the anime codes, synchronized to a unique level of understanding and technical detail, have enhanced the role-playing, immersive, cooperative, and evolving nature of the game, as have artificialintelligence, virtual reality, and 3D.
In terms of audio, recording a voice-over added an extra layer of meaning and enhanced understanding. Like subtitles, this allowed viewers to watch the film wherever they were, with or without sound.
Finally, the final edit benefited from the use of animation techniquessuch as zooming to strengthen the links between the sequence of technical elements and the crisis scenario.
Two months after the video was posted on YouTube and Vimeo, shared on social media, and distributed via targeted email campaigns:
The film was shared on social media and viewed by thousands of users.
The film was screened at the 128th National Congress of French Firefighters and led to demonstrations at numerous institutes.
The film was sent to the Department of the Interior to present the CHAOS solution in the context of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games (JOP), and the minister expressed his interest in a reply letter.
More than 800 people have already been trained at Dijon University Hospital.
